Darshan Eric Williams, 48, was arrested early Monday after officers responded to a shooting at the family’s home in the 6400 block of Huntt Road in La Plata shortly after midnight.

Officers found Williams standing outside the residence and took him into custody without incident, according to the sheriff's office. Inside the home, they discovered his teenage stepson, Michael Edward Clemons, unconscious and not breathing.

Despite officers performing CPR until medics arrived, Clemons was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Williams became upset with Clemons for not completing his chores. The argument escalated into physical violence, culminating in the fatal shooting of the 15-year-old.

Williams has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and related offenses. He is currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center, awaiting a hearing before a district court commissioner.

The incident remains under investigation.
